‘Why does she seem so familiar to me?’ was all Chris Tyler could think of, after he dashed into Veronica Sebastian a few minutes ago. Having been sent out of class for zoning out third time in a row, he thought of getting a few books from his locker. Little did he know, his walk to the locker would put him face to face with Veronica. ‘What’s up with you? Again lost in your thoughts?’ she asked him as smile crept up her lips. Chris could sense she was trying to be friendly but all he could do was to stop himself from throwing a barrage of questions at her. “Maybe later”, he assured himself as he mouthed a ‘No’. His eyes betrayed his words as Veronica got a drift of his curiosity. ‘Well, go on. Looks like you have something important to catch up with!’ she egged him on. She stood there forlorn watching him as he headed towards the college cafeteria. She hesitantly followed him.
‘You people saw them?’ exclaimed Tom, ‘Do they look like they were friends at a point of time? They are behaving like strangers. I mean they were so close’. ‘Yeah! I guess they even made out a couple of times’ added another girl with a ponytail with her fingers moving across the phone.
‘Look at that Sebastian girl at table 4 and Tyler guy at 13’ said Tom. ‘Jeepers Creepers ,4 and 13 are unlucky and evil , 1 plus 3 is 4’,said Noah with his eyes closed with a string of prayer beads in his hand. ‘Oh my God! This guy doesn’t change.’ mocked Stacy.
‘And Veronica is eating cafeteria lasagne. She never liked it!’ continued Tom expressing his newfound concern for Veronica. ‘Chris used to run all over this cafeteria, chilling out, as if it were his home. Now, he is sitting all alone there.” said the ponytail girl, feeling sorry for Chris.
‘Exactly! Don’t you get it all? This very place we are sitting right now is their table. All of them have been sitting here from the first day of the college and now they don’t even give it a second look!’ exclaimed Tom.
Just then Stacy came running with a newspaper in her hand. “People! Have you read this?” she asked in excitement. ‘Newspaper? Never had a habit’ said the fat guy munching a nacho. ‘Will you please shut that damn mouth of yours!’ yelled Stacy, ‘This was two days ago. People found a car near the college which hit a tree and the car was shattered and splintered into pieces. Tell you what? That was Jessica’s car and the quartet is still alive, wandering normally without even a single bruise on their bodies!’.Everybody gulped as they tried to digest that information and sat expressionless.
