This article would let you know how cockroach could do it.The cockroach inspired scientists to create a mini robot that could save people during earthquakes, disasters etc. This mini robot has remarkable abilities as the cockroach does
Cockroaches have the remarkable abilities to squeeze their body to one quarter of their normal size and it still scampers at lightning speed.
It can withstand 900 times their body weight without being injuired.
The American cockroach can travel 50 times its body length in one second which is equivalent to human running more than 225 kms in an hour when compressed the cockroach slows to 20 body lengths per second.
Keeping these in mind scientists developed a mini robot that look like cockroach fitted with cameras, microphones and other sensors and then used during earthquakes, disasters. Scientists believe this technology could help in search and rescue of victims buried under rubble as a result of storms, earthquakes or explosions .As they can run fast through a half inch gap by reorienting their legs completely out to the side in the same way a robot was designed that can splay its legs outward when squashed and capped it with a plastic shield similar to tough shell covering a cockroaches back. This was named as CRAM(compressible robot articulated mechanics) which can run through cracks only half its height and tight spaces

It is a origami style,soft-legged that can move around rapidly both open and confined spaces and it can go to those places that are not safe for human.
The prototype probably cost us less than $100 if mass produced with sensors and other equipment add on the robots it could eventually cost less than $10 apiece.

This is only a prototype but it shows feasibility of a new direction that we can expect in future such as the most effective models for soft robots i.e animals without exoskeleton
